    HI all

Is it possible to have a fishless sps reef? What would be needed to feed the sps if one did not have the fish poop? On that note would a Protein skimmer even be neccessary since there is no fish waste in the system? Any other advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks

i think a skimmer would always be a prerequisite for an sps system.. especially if color was something you would be wanting to achieve.. just my opinion though.. fishless im sure you could do it but i think i may be fairly boring... :) but prove me wrong buddy...

well should you not like it you could ways add perhaps a pair of fish or something just to break it a little.. perhaps something like a pair of mandarin or citronella gobies.. but so long as theres something moving in the current it will keep your interest alive..

Maybe as a second system connected to the sump of a system with fish??? Bet of both worlds.

I've got 2 1.2m tanks at the moment. One has 1 fish and other has 2 fish. The one with 1 fish used to be filled with sps and seemed ok...

In my opinion you should still skim even without fish unless you don't have many corals. I personally think to get the best results with sps fish are a necessity.

would detract from the realism as coral reefs have an adundance of fish
