I have posted this in the urgent forum , but it does not get accepted!
Admins please point me in the right direction, because this is urgent!!!!

    Hi all,

I'm in JHB at the moment, and my wife (8 months pregnant) is looking after the tank.
One of my chromis is stuck in the overflow, how do we get him free?

I really need to help my wife, since I can't do a thing from where I am!

Is it in an overflow box? Can she reach it with a small net?

Is the fish actually stuck or just swimming around in the overflow? Does it have a durso pipe?

Ok, had a look at your thread and it looks like you've got very skinny overflow boxes, so no chance of getting a net in there, it also looks like you've got outlets at the bottom of the overflows going down to the sump, no durso's.

Difficult, what you could maybe do is get the wife to switch off the return pump, hopefully the water draining from the overflow will suck the fish down with it into the sump where he should be easier to net out. Might need to try this a couple of times. I can't think of any other way to do it, apart from just leaving it and hoping he gets sucked down into the sump by himself, or sadly you'll just have to leave him there to die. Fish are really awkward sometimes and he's probably sitting in a corner right at the bottom where the suction won't get to him, maybe she can fit a thin stick down there and try and nudge the fish to swim towards the pipe so he can get sucked down.

If the overflow has a ballvalve on then close the valve and flood the overflow box. then try and chase it up and over using a long stick or a wire hanger unfolded (if you still get those)

I had a chromis doing the same thing.

Down slimline overflow, and getting stuck on the ballvalve. Luckily I was at home, and just could not understand why the tank wanted to flood. Opened the ballvalve and it flushed the chromis out to the sump.

He survived. Moved him back to the display.

Actually a couple of weeks later. and he, or another Chromis was back in the sump.

Now I have those combs on the overflow. No more problems.
