Are your water parameters in check?

Are there any signs of disease?

What are the other fish in the tank?

Could be a crab, any tell tails signs of one?

Did you check against the pumps and in the overflow if you have one?

Check in your sump, overflow box and if you have a tank with a built in "sump"...check in there too.
If your tank is open, check around it. Fish do like to jump.
Check against your flow pumps, they sometimes get stuck on the intake side.
Also look at your tank after lights out with a red light for any crabs and or unwanted hitch hickers. They do go for your fish when they are small and or sleeping.

    Good luck

If it has died for some reason maybe a hermit has dragged it around the back or under some rockwork

Especially over night as most species are nocturnal (they scavenge mostly at night)

highly unlikely...what is the size ratio of the aiptasia to the fish that went missing?

unlikely, besides, if it did, I'm sure you would see some remains in the aip's trunk

Do you have a nennie or coral that might have eaten them, or a larger fish?
