I'm 80% percent sure that it is a juvenile Spotted pompano (common Dart) - Trachinotus botla
Someone else recently posted a photo of one with terrible finrot.
The juveniles have stripes that fade later as the spots develop.
    This fish is a predator.

Belinda, both photos are of a sand steenbras - so you are right, they look the same! they are!:)

a white streenbras have less stripes and the stripes are thicker.

Why do reefers catch fish that they do not know what they are taking out of the sea, and, have no idea how to keep them?

Ain't that the way this hobby started?
The only way to learn is thru, trail and error.

I disagree, it's a juvenile Stonebream (Stinker Fish) Neoscorpis lithophilus
