Hi. This is my first post.

I have an old tank that was originaly a tropical tank.
Its been standing for the last cupple years with rats in it.
The rats are now biger and have been moved into a better cage.

I have to resilicone they tank to get it bak up to scratch, and have decided
To try my hand at a marine tank. Coming to this site has opend my eyes
And I now see that its alittle more complecated than originaly thort.

So I'm just going through as I have sum cash to get things started.
And firstly I ges it will be the filtration.

The tank is 130cm length, 45cm width and about 45cm deep.

Is it going to big enough for a marine tank. Have been told it isn't.
And if it is what sort of filtration is going to best.

A filter built inside the tank will kill a lot of realestate.
But could be easier. But if I go with an external "sump" I think it is
What size do I need to make it.

    Thanks for any help.

    130cm is 1.3m. I personally have a 4ft 1.2m display tank with a 3ft sump and i manage just fine
It also greatly depends what you want to stock in your tank.

Maybe it will help the guys out a little if you can tell us a bit of what you were looking at in regards to livestock. I will suggest a external filtration system. its not nice when you have all these nice coral and fish in your tank and you have to look at filters and pumps

Welcome please see my comments below in blue

i hope i have given you some perspective, and not confused you too much, marines and reefkeeping need not be a chore.. but it is important to outline from the start what your objective is and plan towiards it, the plan will change many times but at least you will be concious of the effects it will cause on the intended outcome :)

I haven't realy thort much about what I want in it. Just trying to pull in all the info I would need to get going. Ill look into a Mechanical pump. Would be easier to hide.

I realy like tangs. And the girlfriend wants a Sea Horse. So I'll prob go with that and sum prawns to help clean up. Do want to have a rather busy coral section. Maybe only like 5 or 6 fish. In the tropical tank I went heavy with the fish and it just seemed realy busy all the time. So I'm just gona try sumthing diferent. With the mechanical pump, will it create enough water movement.

Hi there, welcome to MASA. For great info and a nice read on starting a marine tank, check out the link in my signature. This will give you an idea of different filtration methods and lights, etc. - really worth it ;)

    Enjoy :)
