    Hi all,

My name is Craig Davisson, I have been a member of MASA for about 6 months, here is a picture of my Nano 125 litre, this is my first post on MASA. I have done some changes since this PIC. Having a few challenges but should get them right. I noticed my RO water quality deteriorated after about 5 months and I also suspect a light spectrum deterioration after 6 months. The tank has plenty mods with respect to flow and circulation. Please comment if you would like to!

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the compliments, I really appreciate it!

Well it is only a nano, it is my 4th saltwater aquarium, the smallest and the most expensive, the same money a decade ago would have probably bought me a 4 meter tank with all bells and whistles.

I started with the filtration, the boyu comes with a 700 lph return pump, I added an extra 1200 lph into the sump, that is one of the returns you see on the right side, not to eye friendly but what can I say. On the left at the rear is a pump that feeds the chiller that keeps the temperature around 26 degrees. This was a mod I was forced to do cos the temperature was hitting around 31 at the beinning of summer. The sump has around 4kg of Fiji LR, I still have come crushed coral and beads that must come out of the 3rd compartment. I have 2 x SEIO magnet 2000lph in the tank for circulation which I watching as I think it might just be too much for my bubble coral and frogspawn. The SEIOs are on 4 hour cycles, one on one off, it gives a tide effect. The lights the nanos biggest weakness are on 10 hour cycle all controlled by basic timers. The filter on the left is an Eheim that has actually been taken out, it was stuffed with filter wool to keep the water clear, I actually regret taking it out because the water is not near as clear as it was, oh yes I actually noticed rust on the rotor and tossed it, be careful of this I think it can cause some big trouble. I do at least 10-20 percent water replacement every week, I heat the water to the same as the tank and get the SG levels almost exact to the water in the tank. I added a purple tang recently and took out some LR to give the fish some more space. It is really an avid grazer, I think to the detriment of some of the corals specifically the buttom polyps. I suppose the success of this hobby is based upon thinking twice before making any significant changes, in other word if you really want to change something, rather sleep on it and see if you feel the same in the morning, if so then do it.
