Hi there, I have a cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp. They usually molt around the same time. So today they molted, but upon coming home I found the Fire Shrimp on the sand, looking dead. Out of fear of hurting him as I am sure his shell is still soft I just left him in the tank, hoping he is just playing dead. Anyone have this happen to them?

Let us know in the morning again if the shrimp is dead or was just in the middle of molting.

Normally it is a iodine deficiency that causes death when shedding. Do you have a means to test for iodine?

He didn't make it. Came home to my starfish having shrimp for supper. I add Iodide to my tank every 1-2 weeks. I don't have an Iodine tester.

Sorry for the loss bud. Did just do a water change or did you have a pH swing or alkalinity change at all?

I actually did do a water change on Saturday. Could it be that?

Yes, shrimps are very sensitive to salinity and parameter changes. Hence why one needs a long acclimation time when introducing new inhabitants to your aquarium.
