    Hi

I been thinking of keeping fire gobies again (decorated dartfish)

Can I keep them in a group (if yes how big must the group be minimum)

Or must the be kept singly

also.. I have seen people keep them with purple firefish, is it possible to keep them together with lots of fighting

I had a look at your tank thread and considering your tank size i would suggest getting one.
you could try 2 but in my experience if they dont pair up they do eventually fight and the dominant one can chase the other 2 the point that it jumps out of the tank or dies from stress.

If you do get one consider getting one from a Kenyan shipment. In most occasions (again in my experience) the ones that come in from kenya are pretty healthy and eat within days. They can also be very shy fish in a overpopulated aquarium and if pestered by other fish 4 territory they tend to hide away and dont feed. allow it to settle by turning your lights off 4 some time after introduction.

    Good luck!

Would they be better off in a school then or still single

If in a school, how big should the school be??

    Thanks

    Oh ok!

You could try more then. However there is always a chance again that these fish may turn on each other with the dominant one rulling.

They are often kept together in a group at LFS but i once they mature they can change character and can 'bikker'.

In a tank that size you could try a small group.

If you do try this make sure that they are of equall size and put them in all at the same time!

Just be very careful if you have aggressive fish like wrasse and the like, my 6-line bullied all my fire gobies to death

I'd go for odd number say 3 - rather get the purple firefish than the normals

Wouldnt be keeping 6 line, my fathers is a big bully

Would a jumping bean be aggessive? My Jumping Bean wasnt aggressive towards the Banggai Cardinal, but to a juvenile angel he was.

Fire Gobies usually swim in the same area as the Cardinals not the the Angel ?

Or would there still be fighting?

get only a single or a pair not a group, it doesnt matter what the size of aquarium they will eventually fight, read my thread of my tank if you want to know why.

He came out and swam around everywhere this morning, but when he saw me with the camera he got the fright of his life, ducked right into his burrow/hole and only came out few minutes later ...

    Adorable enough??

I got purples and the fire gobies. Purples are fine with the reds, but the reds I introduced at the same time, they did fight a bit the first week, but settled in now, is a 6 foot tank. But no fighting between any of them.
