Please create a list of LFS stores per region / area. We can not advertize your favourite LFS but can we list them, just basic stuff, like Region / Town / Name / Address / Contact number / Link

Then put this list as a link on the home page for MASA.
This will help me as a beginner, so that I can shop around and get more information from different sales persons, to build my own perception about whatever. For I know of 3 LFS's in Tshwane.

No reputation scores or grading or any such stuff. I just need to know where I can find a LFS, and I can make up my own mind about him after visiting him.

I think it should be fine. Do you just want a plain list or would it be better if it was like on google earth/maps so you can see exactly whereabouts they are?

Rory - surely the shops must be sponsors if they are being listed on the site? If the site lists all the LFS then non-sponsors will be getting PR from the site....

If you just list the shops & areas, surely there shud be no problem as you are not saying if they are good or not, advertising products etc... I think this would be extremely helpful as it took me a long time to find these places

this is true, look at it from a business point, the lfs that do sponsor on this site are basically at a point of advertising and being recommended and as soon as non sponsors are being listed then they are being advertised and made as a recommendation indirectly ....

I had this in mind

List to be sorted by region and town. Then Sponser and on the sponser name a link to his site or info. And maybe a google earth map link on the address box. By this sponsers are identified, listed first.

Region Town Name Address Contact number Link
Gauteng Johannesburg ABC fish his adress 011 555 5555 Sponser Link
Gauteng Johannesburg DEF stores his adress 011 555 6666 not a Sponser
Gauteng Pretoria XYZ you to his adress 012 555 7777 not a Sponser
(ok this list should be spaced nicely)

Maybe this will even help the non sponsers to put themselves up as sponsers.

And bad shops info will not be sent in by "loyal" customers, as they should not have any....

And in Gauteng area their is only one sponser on this site, and he is an online shop doing corals and hardware only. No fish livestock.

Yes that is the idea, in a backwards sort of way.
All I want is a basic list of where I can find a LFS. Shop name and address.
If the shops "realize" that they can get a bit more exposure, like listing their website or products, then hopefully they can be convince to join the 21st century. Especially if the customer tell them that they found them listed on MASA.

But then again, I think the LFS stores might not like it if their customers know where their other competition are, and to where the unhappy customer can turn to....

I took the Yellow Pages - Pretoria
And not a single pet shop in there advertize themselves as having Marine Stuff. Closest coldwater, tropical and Koi.

Well If they do not even want to be in the Yellow Pages, why must their costomers create a listing for them??????

i can see why this wont go down well with the sponsors but it would be nice to have a reference list to shop from should you be going in that area...

down here we are also subject to one shop that is doing something in the marine circle and another trying!!! both are old school though....

Just a though - not sure if this is against the commercial posting rules of MASA though - perhaps one of the admins can chirp in - Viper?

How about having this list on another web-server (does anyone own web-space?) and just posting the link / URL to MASA's links page. This information is then not directly on MASA, and should not impact the sponsor's agreement.

How about that?

The forum is to help people in marines, if you say no the list idea then you are not putting the members first, this is just a thought

and why not ask all the sponsors if they have obections.

this is my opion
