Who feeds fruit and veg.
How do you prepare it and what are the advantages to what you feed.

I have seen guys add lettuce to their tanks for tangs but I would be wary of doing that as there is chemicals and insecticides on a lot of them bought in the shops etc.

I've tried lettuce and peas ... works well but in moderation ... also heard of guys using banana with great success for difficult eaters but never tried it ... a lot of forums overseas talk of fruits not being a problem as can be found in waters all over but not so much of veggies as nori

I did peas in my old setup a few times, my clowns loved it but my Midas just played with them.

I add broccoli and carrot shavings to my homemade food mix, seems to work well, even seen my Copperband eat a piece of carrot before.

So I did some lettuce 2night. Gave it a rinse clean in some RO first.
Had to break a few pieces off to let loose in the tank to fool them that some other fish was going at it ripping it up. But once they got a taste it was game over.

I've heard of feeding peas for medicinal reasons. To be honest I'm not a great fan of feeding food that doesn't originate from the ocean. Yes I know that's a bit of a stupid statement with some of the 'marine' foods we feed, lol, but I've never really looked into feeding fruit and veg. Plus I'm lazy and it's much easier to just to drop a frozen block into the tank, lol.

Dont you get these veggies in pellet form in SA? I googled it and noticed several international shops that sell them which is awesome cos its got all kinds of stuff in ranging from seaweed to plants. I haven't seen anything like this locally. Who on masa is friend with the Brits? ive seen a couple of online shops in UK selling them. I need to write the Illuminati a letter:thumbup:

When I did my homemade food, I looked at the Reef Frenzy ingredients list and it had broccoli and carrots on the list, so reckoned it will be good to include.

Do you remove the leftover food because the gas exchange will be ridiculous. And with regards to the banana, it's rich in
potasium yet its one of the elements you don't want in your aquarium

There is not much food left over, the fish go crazy for it, but it does add a lot of nutrients, added a sulfur denitrator and lots of GFO to tank to offset the increase in nutrients. I'll post the recipe, have it somewhere on my phone, just need to find it. The mix works for finicky feeders, this is my Moorish and Copperband, both which I had for more than a year now:

It eats anything. I feed homemade mix twice a day, and then I soak Hikari Marine A, Marine S and Seaweed Extreme in Seachem Vitality for 5 minutes and feed this once a day or once every two days.
