Just a quick question.
How does everyone feed their fish in a reef tank? Now myself with a heavy fish load i turn off all my circulation pumps except the return and feed so the food basically all falls in one area. The fish have all learnt that when the pumps go off, its food time, this way i get very little waste. Now if you leave your pumps running and the food is flying all over the place I do feel that a tank that may be having algae issues this may be one of the ways that nutrient is added to a system as there is plenty wasted food that settles all over the system.

Alan,

I do the opposite... I switch off my return pump so the feeding stays in the main display, I find less food gets wasted as well as some of the corals benefit from the excess food around too! Some food gets to the shrimps and hermits too...

I leave the return pump off for +-15mins

nice one alan.think i should give it a try.i normally just feed.dont switch anything off

I leave all pumps running except the return pump. The food does go flying all over the place but I figured this way the whole tank would get fed – well more so when I had mainly LPS because after feeding you would see all the corals had grabbed some food, not sure if this still has any benefit with SPS though – maybe just a case of old habits die hard! :whistling:

I feed a mix, which consists mainly of fish roe.
