    Hi Hennie,

I have one of your fantastic Euphyllia frags in my tank, and it is doing extremely well, so well in fact that today I saw what I believe is at least two of the heads splitting ….. the heads are elongated, and to my uneducated eye look to be splitting ….. so my question Sir, what is the usual splitting process you observed in your mother colony ….. my only concern is that something may be wrong with the coral….. but given its massive PE … most of the heads swell up to just smaller than a tennis ball, I do not think it is in trouble, below is a pic of the coral, I will try take a pic of where I think it is splitting asap, thanks

    Hi Neil,

Glad that the frag is doing well

Yes, I agree - it certainly looks as if they are starting to split. They usually do that, and then the split grows into two separate heads.

What's more encouraging is the growth of new heads from the main trunk. If you look closely at the second photo, you can see little "tubes" protruding from the trunks - in time they will grow into full-sized coral heads.

Just be warned - these babies really suck up calcium and alkalinity as they grow, but if you keep the Ca above 350 and the Alk above 7 DkH you should have a huge colony in another year or two

Actually feeling rather bad about this... :sorry: :006:

I had hoped to combine a collection visit to Durban with a visit to Richardsbay to bring everyone their frags, but unfortunately accommodation arrangements fell through. If it's any consolation, your frag now has about 20 heads, and is measuring approximately 150mm x 200mm.

There is a possibility of someone going to Durban in the near future, if it works out I will send your frag, and all the others for the Durbanites, to someone on that side - you will then just have to make arrangements for transport from there...

Alternatively, I am now planning a collection week holiday in February - if all else fails, I will still deliver it

    thanks for the feedback Hennie.

I had a close look on the rest of the coral and there are literlly dozens of tubes growing off the main trunk, some with small pollups as well..... looks like it is extremely happy in my little piece of reef !!! Thanks again
