    Hi Guys,
Need some help - two days ago my emperor angel (whom we have had for about 3mths) looked as if he has some white spot and not eating as well as he normally does, it is also seems to be effecting my sailfin (4 mths). No additions have been made to our DT so I am not sure what is causing the problem)

Tank 1100 litre various corals and fish.

    Tested with the following results:
    PH 8.1
Nitrate 12 (know its on the high side)
    KH 11.7
    Alkalinity 4.15
    Amonia .25
    Nitrite 0
    Calcium 440
    Phosphate 0

Due to the amonia and nitrate being high I did aprox 100lit water change. I have attached an pic.

    Any Help would be appreciated.

the ammonia will be an issue, nitrate dont worry about that 16 is low
i suggest something like Prodibio StopAmmo or Seachem Prime/Safe

The sooner your ammonia is at 0 the better your fish will be.
once that is at 0, what else have you changed to get a spike in ammonia? how old is the tank?

    Thanks

The tank was started in March 2012. Can't honestly think of anything that has changed. We did go on holiday over December but all looked fine when we returned (Could be over feeding). I will pop into the pet shop and get some on the way home. Thanks!!

mmm you need to get the ammoia down asap.. is just this fish effected or are there others?

i would look into bacterial boosters to assist with getting the ammonia to 0....

do not do any more waterchanges as this retards the cycle... your water looks good otherwise..

is the fish eating? if so soak frosen and pelleted food (or whatever hes eating) in vitamins for at least 30 min prior to addition.. make sure your skimmer is running and watch your food addition.. make sure what you are feeding is being eaten by the effected fish and monitor ammonia carefully..

24hrs after the water change we added, micro biolift (20ml) should I be adding more. The sailfin is also not a hapy chappy. Skimmer is working fine.

I would say nite out and special blend to boost bacteria....bit for now add something like stop ammo from seachem just to take out toxic part of ammonia or prime like @expressreef said...

Thanks got the Seachem Prime and have dosed accordingly. The LFS also advised us to soak the Emperor food in Seachem NeoPlex which is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Can anyone recommend this product. Will this effect our corals.

Try keep a level head, it sounds like you haven't made any mistakes. How many fish do you have in your system, how often do you feed, what do you feed?

Ok, for you to have some ammonia in your system could be a case of uneaten rotting food. What does your clean up crew consist of? I think with you being away, and your feeding regime might be the cause for NH3. Cut back on your feeding, watch the fish closely, do tests again in two days. Also 20 ml of micro lift for your size system is a small dosage, is this the first time using the product? If so, you should be dosing 120ml per 440 litres, a week later it should be 80ml per 440 litres (this is for a tank your size), and so on ( read the instructions on the bottle, follow closely, remember 1 us gallon is 3.78 litres).
