I am so chuffed, but still cautious at the moment. Last night I done some night shift, checking what is cruising in my tank in the dark. Well, I found this crab, about 2 cm. Got black claws and harry legs.
Thinking the whole day, how am I going to get rid of if, by building a trap in my head.

After deciding to check some videos out again, I came across this one, from mr saltwater tank about cleanup crew. And there it is, looking about the same -an Emerald Crab - wow - they are good!!

What is your experience with Emerald Crabs? Did they eat any coral?

Emerald Crabs are herbivores mainly so no they dont bother livestock in your tank. However what you discribe doesnt sound like a emerald crab...they are as the name suggests green, and not exactly a common hitch hiker. Maybe try and get a better look at the one in your tank and see if it is in fact green in colour.

Is your crab green? I don't think emerald crabs are hairy. I could be wrong though. Emerald crabs are green though, if yours isn't green it aint an emerald.

Durp... Kunhardt beat me to it.

Thanks guys, need to check the colour tonight. Must be a local crab that came with NSW for water change.

It like hides between the rock, carefully moving its paws to pick up food.

yip, all crabs are predators and oppertunistic feeders, so while small will eat pods etc, but as they grow they will eat fish etc..
very few crabs are reef safe, sally lightfoot, emerald crab, arrow crab and hermits

Yeah, sump it!!! No need to kill it or anything, just pop it in the sump. When he grows up, he may take out some of your fish.

the real telltale sign is if you look at the claws.if the claws are like your forefinger and thumb when touching with a little flat area at the end it is herbivourous(and possibly an emerald crab.) the colour may not be as green as we expect. mine is whitish green
