I've been blindly paying but just checked my municipal bill for the first time, my daily average consumption is 44 kWh, my bill is over R1700 a month and I live alone. Does it sound high? I'm clueless at these things.

The tank is 700w lighting, 500w heaters and then the other bits a pieces. 8 fin oil heater at night and the usual other household items (no tumble dryer)

Remember the JHB and PTA area are paying more than +- R1,61 a kilowatt from June to August.

We're back to the +- 84c next month.

    Yep seems right, your tank max p/hour 1.3kw = R2.10 p/hour
    Oil heater 2kw = R3.22 p/hour
    Be brave and shiver.

Something sounds wrong. There is a perception that prepaid is cheaper.
Well it's not you pay per kw. The price per kw is the same if you have prepaid or not. There must bee a problem there.

    I agree,

You just have better control over your bills so to speak. I was paying just under R1 per kw when I was on varsity which isn't exactly cheap.

We moved to a higher / more prestigious area and the last voucher we bought were scary as we received 270 units less than the previous month with 1000 voucher...this due to winter rates...benoni is the most expensive town on the eastrand with electricity...the council make us pay for their losses and with prepaid they can’t...look at the media how many people must first pay and then fight high bills...I will stick to prepaid as I’m in control and not them...
