Brown wire on P1 and the black wire either to 1 or 2 Turn the dial to the warmest and then turn on the power if the fridge runs then slowly turn dial until you hear a click if the fridge turns off you in business if the fridge turns on after the click then swop black from 1-2 the green wire must go to the metal tags on the box or screw I hope I am right its been a while

    Neil,

It appears there is only 3 wires that came off the old thermostat, that being the green/yellow, brown and black?

The brown must go on pin "P1"

Black must go onto pin "2"

Green/yellow onto the metal frame of the thermastat if it has.

If the fridge is warm and the compressor is not running, then change the black to pin "1".

    thanks guys

so consensus is brown on P1

black on either 1 or 2

so green does not go on the third clip? i must find another spot for it? the previous thermostat in the background had 3 clips and the 3 wires were on the clips but there were no labels.....

the green is the earth right ? does it HAVE to be attached ???

if there is a tab on the metal body of the switch, put the green there. if not, leave it off. the earth is only needed if you can touch the metal part when its installed. chances are that you will not be able to, because it will be inside a plastic casing and have a plastic knob. so leave it off. just make sure it cannot touch any of the other pins. (tape it up)

remember, the silver tube on the switch is vacuum sealed and the filled with gas. do not make bends too short or cut it. :(

Neil. it looks like the new thermostat is a full plastic body, so it might not take an earth.

And no, the earth must not go onto the either P1, 1 or 2, unless you want to sit in darkness?
