My tanks suddenly blooming with life after introduction of chaeto and sand from a friend - and I found two of these on the DT glass, they are really tiny, about 1-2mm across at the most ..... Can't be a baby brittlestar, can it?

Agreed with Jac, they are hydroids. But, please don't freak out just yet. These usually don't become a problem.

I wouldn't worry about them, they come off anyway when you clean the glass.

I'm stressing over these buggers a bit - I haven't got any other livestock in the tank that may eat them, will they get busy and breed like crazy ? If so I'll avoid dimming the lights and playing barry white music for a bit ..... hydromedusae or Staurocladia oahuensis is their name and concensus is they are mostly harmless - but can reportedly even sting humans ! As if ..... Wierd that my avatar is of a hydroid too.

Now, when I squash them will they go pop or squish ?

LOL! Hydroids are not specifically hard. There are SOME types that build hard'ish skeletons.
They will not go mad and breed. So, don't worry about it...... They come and go....

I am not 100% sure what they feed on, but, I DO KNOW, that they do not always have the food to feed them, in our tanks.... so - they come and go....

    Stop stressing Mark... lol

Leave them, they won't do anything. They'll fall off when you clean the glass. I got plenty in my sump where I just let them be :)

Well, whatever these dudes eat, and whatever lighting and mating music they prefer, I seem to have nailed it on the head - the buggers are taking off like crazy!

They seem to love the black pvc I've used for my plumbing, and it's the only lit area - coming from direct morning sunshine through a window.

And my attempts at squishing them turned out to be :beatdeadhorse5:

    Buggers .......
