    Hi there!

I am VERY new to marine aquarums and is just browsing all the very interesting articles on this site! I am a Chemical Engineer and has always found marine tanks extremely beautiful and as my fiance has kept Tropical tanks for most of his life we decided that this will be a challenge to both of us for the exciting new (married) part of our lives. We both have a passion for it and the articles from this site has already taught us so much, we can't wait to learn more from you guys and in the process also share some of the knowledge that we might get from this experience!

Enjoy the holidays, we will be!!

    Regards,
    Karina & Gys:1:

Welcome to Masa guys, glad you joined us. There's some great reading for you in my signature on starting a marine tank, enjoy and don't be shy to ask anything.

    Hi Karina

WELCOME to MASA, and to this great hobby.

Then you are MORE welcome than most - we are always in serious need of good chemistry knowledge, so start brushing up on your sea water chemistry :whistling: :whistling:

Seriously, it would be great to have some definitive input on some sea water chemical reactions, and on better understanding what happens to our tank's chemistry. Also, on better understanding our various water parameter tests, test instruments, and what the values mean...

I've got 2 chemical engineer friends and to be honest they don't know much about chemicals but rather the processes involved, if that makes sense.

In other words, process control :whistling: things like ORP, pH, alkalinity, calcium reactors... all well within the domain of a good chemical engineer (after all, us engineering types can usually figure out anything, given enough time and money )

True. I'm officially a mechanical engineer. Got my results a week or 2 ago.

Congratulations... Now you just need another 5-10 years of EXPERIENCE before you really know something :tt2:

So true. Varsity tought me nothing. I've already got a huge awakening and I've only been working for 2 weeks now. I learn new stuff every day, more than I ever learnt at university.
