DT Rear Glass Snapped..

    What a way to start a week-end...while feeding and admiring my little landscaped reef..my rear glass of the DT snapped:eek:..1.2mx.550x.450=+/-300ltrs...what a mess..corals..inverts...fish...i placed everything in the sump..will it be ok..?
    I have another 1.2m tank same dimension available..but with no overflow..where or who can drill glass..?:blush:

    So sorry to hear!!!! This is what nightmares are made off.....

    But whats so amazing to me is how everyone offers to help immediately..... real peace of mind. Knowing that when we're in trouble... someone will help.... Good for You guys and gals!!!

    They should be. Just make sure there's enough movement and oxygen in the water. Temporarily put a pipe from the return pump to the first chamber so that the water can circulate through the sump. You might have to throttle the pump down a bit.

    Thanks for all the help and empathies...it is really aprreciated...i managed to source the same size tank and made my own adjustments to build an overflow..i will only have everything done by the middle of the week...but i am going to Mozambique for 2 weeks on business and will only be back on the 23rd December...i will post pics soon..on how i got to my overflow ...some gutters...a glass cutter and egg crate..tie binds..and off course marine silicone..:whistling:

    Bud how are you going to secure the plastic trunking to the tank? and the 40mm pipe to the trunking?

    I have used marine silicone..to fix all bends as well as the gutter piece to the tank...

    Here is a complete picture after i have siliconed every bend and down pipe and gutter to the tank with egg crate to the gutters ends are tied with Tie Binds...

    Bud you need to be very wary of using Silicone on plastic trunking. The plastic trunking has a oil in it and the silicone does not form a lasting bond to it. I do not know of a reasonable priced alternative that might be better.

    Just something to be aware of. The last thing you want is to come home one evening and find out the bond has come apart and the tank has leaked draining the sump.

    Otherwise it looks good.

    Thanks i did some research regarding the bond and yes i have used silicone on the inside and PVC Resin on the outside..the bond from the gutter to the glass i used both making double sure...i did this to set myself at ease...like you said Nemo J i don't want to come home and find that the bond didn't last....i will also keep a close eye on this ...
