Hello guys. I want to paint the back of my DT. Going to be keeping fish and softies.

Can you guys post pics of DT's with a black, blue and dark blue backgrounds? This will help alot :) ..

Black really makes bright colours pop and blue looks more natural. My DT is 1.5m long x 0.7wide and 0.5high.. Thanks

I think a blue would be best more or less the same as the blue you see around this thread page

go with a blue vinyl if you can , have a look at the thread on RC , a dark blue fading into a lighter blue on the top of the tank , it looks the bee's knees

you will need to get a reversed vinyl so in other works it is stuck on the outside of the tank.

i dont see where you would get any salt creep from, unless the water is slpashing around like mad

This has been done previously on MASA, the debate is never ending :p
I think it was a poll as well.

Just changed mine to black and I'm quite happy. I *hate* the bright blue backgrounds - although I think a very dark blue - almost black, would probably be my first choice.

What was the result? lol I think with a blue background, when you take pics of individual corals etc it looks more natural... Thats why I wanted pics to compare :tt2:

I found the result of the poll, it was pretty much even with black just higher.. SO the answer is.... DARK BLUE!! lol ....

In the end I'm most probably going to paint it black haha

Yesss another convert to the dark side! hehehe ;-)

I really like the emphasis the black places on whats in the tank...

The standard bright blue looks even more "artificial" to me strangely enough?

haha.. Originally I wanted to make it black but I saw the close up pics of blue and it looked cool, however blue fish loose their "impact" with a blue background ie chromis disappear with a blue background. I saw this at VIP pets yesterday... So I just finish paint the back of my tank black :p

dont know why more people dont use abs sheeting. This way you can easily change the colour if/when you get bored.

true lol... but if you put the sheeting outside the tank then you will get salt creep between the sheet and the glass.. If you put it inside the tank then it is difficult to clean algae off the plastic.. Well this is what I thought so just painted it lol :)

I went and bought myself a Plascon Midnight Blue code: G116. I will try and take pics of the new background which I painted over the weekend sometime and post them :)

Here is a pic of my tank. Excuse the algae on the back. I decided to let it grow to cover the back up but that was before I painted yesterday
