I have just started running Carbon on my 4ft and after one day, I see a vivid change in my system. I have read the threads on this subject and although there have been some conflicting discussions, it remains a grey area somehow.

In our tests, we consider testing everything except organics which consist of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and hormones. All of which are controlled by the use of activated carbon.

I came across this url: http://joejaworski.wordpress.com/2008/05/09/does-a-reef-tank-need-carbon/ which was quite informative.

Carbon is very good but you must soak the carbon in 90 degree RO water for a day to remove the excess phosphates

Yes, read that article a while back and its no doubt that carbon should be part of our maintanance. It's just sometimes a problem getting the right brand. Luckely there is a local lfs that sells the Buyo activated carbon which I use.

I feel that carbon is one of the best filtermedia's that one should definetly run in any tank. helps keep the water from turning yellow, light penetration, poison from any sort it will absorb, and needs to be changed monthly
