    Hi guys.

Can anyone maybe tell me who can assist me with lazercutting glass? I want to build 300gallon drop off tank and shut down my old 250 gallon. Please let me know. This is my current tank.[IMG]

@Quintus it all depends on the size you want. This was 900long 500h and 400 wide. The display was 700long with a 200mm sump at the back. Glass was 8mm thick. When going drop reef it works out little more expensive as you have to buy a whole panel glass if they had to laser cut a shape for you.

My Idea was 1700 long 1.3 h and 900 wide, but rene turck has insisted i do this from acrylic

Acrylic is pricey but will look awesome. With that hight you need very thick glass

you can get reinforced laminate Glass=12+.3+12 giving you 24.3 thick glass, even then Rene turck was skeptical, I was advised to go with 30mm Acrylic, but at R9500 a square meter:banghead:, Hell no

My decommissioned tank is 800mm high and 550mm wide in the centre curving to the ends at 350mm. The length is 1500mm and the whole thing is made from 6mm acrylic with no issues what so ever. So 30mm is a bit of overkill. Acrylic is much stronger than glass and is as clear as what you can get. Just pricey.

6mm acrylic, damn dude i would stay far away from that tank. You use more thicker acrylic than glass as thin acrylic won't just break but will warp. Ice seen a 8mm 1.2x700x700 tank and the sides bowed. Tank was about 4 years old at the time i saw it. Acrylic in SA is very overpriced

Just my opinion, deeper is not always better and at 1.3m h that is a tall stretch. Not easy to do what you want especially when it comes to maintenance and scapping. It looks excellent but for everything else it is just a pain.

The design of tank actually is what supports it. I am the second owner of the tank with no problems what so ever (Except for my fish dying when I was on leave). And yes acrylic is waaaaayyyyy over priced in SA.
