    Hey guys

I've had an interesting situation develop in the last few weeks where my zoas have started to shrink and fade away. Nothing else in my tank seems to be affected, my torch opens up nicely and is looking healthy, my few other coral frags seem to be doing well. All my paramaters are in check (i did have a bit of a salinity issue a while back when my one baffle cracked in my sump, the water level changed a bit and i was a bit silly in that I didn't top up as much I should have - SG rose to around 1.029/1.030 but with my new sump that is all sorted).

my immediate thought is that maybe my lights are due for replacement - they are around 8 months old now (4 T5s). however browsing through google this morning i found these two threads and i was wondering if anyone has ever tried this?

perfect time for u to post this,as im having a similiar issue with my zoa's.
Did all my tests lastnite evrything seemed good just my salinity was at 1.024 and nitrate was 0.05.

Certain zoa's are remaining closed while others open up,not sure why this is happening.Been so for a few days now

danimal, I don't know if that information is in the thread. I got this information directly from the OP. I do know that the zoas did really well with the addition of VC for a long time. Then all of a sudden they went down hill. Whole colonies would die over night. Vitamin C may not have been the cause. There are many other possibilities.

Michael, I have no idea what she was dosing. I've actually never read the entire thread. That thread is huge and has been split 3 or 4 times.

She had recommended to me a long time ago to dose VC. I refused because I've never had a problem with my zoas. She's seen my tanks and agreed that my zoas always looked great. So, since it wasn't broke, I didn't try to fix it.

fair enough. anemone, do you have any idea what COULD cause zoas to suddenly deteriorate when everything else in the system is on par? in fact much more sensitive corals (torch, and one or two sps frags) are flourishing? i do not dose anything really, i used to add iodine but could not find a test kit for it so stopped. so regular water changes are the only thing really.

Mmmmmm ok I would agree with you on that one Brenda If not broke don't fix it, that's where my previous mistakes. But I've now learned from them & don't just jump into trying it because it worked for somebody else. I'll first go & google the topic & if I feel positive about it then maybe I'll try it. but for now all is ok

It could be a lot of different things, or even a combination of a few. Some of them include, pests, chemical warfare, poor water quality (many possibilities with water parameters). It’s impossible to say if the VC was involved in the death.

Dipping and QT was recommended to her. However, I don’t know if it was done, or how it was done, or if it was done a little too late.
