    Hi Henk,

I've been mailing the guys around dosing a large system like mine (2500L or 660G)

I received this info...my question is, do you know of anyone following such a regimen on a large system, keen on getting some first hand feedback from a fellow reefer.

    her replies as follows:

There is no need to switch off the skimmer or the pumps when using the Special Blend.
    Dosing for 660 gallons:

    Day 1 add 720 mL (24 oz.)

    Day 8, 15, 22 and 29 add 480 mL (16 oz.)

After this the maintenance is every other week 180 mL (6 oz.)

The start up dosage is recommended to help the bacteria establish themselves.
This is recommended no matter the age of the aquarium.
However, if you feel like your aquarium does not need it, you can go directly to the maintenance dose every second week.

The vodka will not be needed; the Special Blend does remove nitrate.

MICROBE-LIFT/Special Blend is special in many ways. First it is a fully active culture consortium (blend) and the moment is comes out of the bottle (there is no time delay) it goes to work the second it is added to the aquarium to consume waste organic matter that is released from aquarium life, waste food, and plant waste, there-by establishing the necessary waste degraders to control water quality. In addition, this select culture group seeds the entire aquarium with necessary microbes, to filters, substrate and bulk water.
The addition of Special Blend will not only enhance water quality, improve filter performance, it will remove nitrate via a process called denitrification and it will do it fast.
I hope this helps. If you have any more questions please contact me.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Adrian,

    I saw that mail...

No one that i know of locally is using on a tank that size. It may be because we don't import it in the 4L bottles. The largest size we import is the 16oz bottle. Would you like us to import a larger size for you tank?

Thanks Henk. I just did a quick calc and I will need 2640ml before getting into the maintenance routine. I may run the risk of taking the whole shelf of the stuff from the nearest pet store I'm able to get to, that has the stuff. My only concern would be not having enough of the available so as to not break the recommended start up cycle period. A few of the 16oz bottles would be perfect, will query with the LFS to make sure that they bring these in as well. Should my use and trials of the product prove to my liking, I will def take the 4L bottles.

Interesting that this product does not make use of a carbon source, still trying to wrap my head around that one....understanding the mechanics of something is not my strong point though.

I agree with Adee on the carbon - I am not an expert at all, but allways thought that a stable food source would be needed to maintain the bacteria population? I am dosing vodka with SpecialBlend. All my chaeto has died in the process, and my skimmer output not close to where it was before I started the vodka/SpecialBlend.

    @Adee - Ok :D

@ChrisNell - Remember Special Blend eats the organic waste in the tank hence there is less to skim out.

Your tank is running beautifully, you have amazing growth and awesome colours.
Yet u still want to try something new when you don't have to?

After adding the fish load to my system, coral color took a serious dive. Which makes me believe that my bio filtration perhaps is not where it should be. Growth is not a problem...color is. Technically I'm not expanding on mechanical filtration, still keeping things biological, albeit expanding on biological.

Just my inquisitive nature getting the better of me again. :whistling:

@Jeann1 we do have 16oz bottles in stock. Any of the shops you currently buy from can order them for you and will be able to order the 1 gal bottle once it arrives.
