    Hi Dude,

I personally dose 1ml per 100liters of water every 3 to 4 days, so you would dose 13ml every 3 to 4 days. What Iodine do you use, or are thinking of dosing with?

The algae you are getting could be part of the cycling process or to much nutience in the water column. Slow down on your feeding, skim wetter and get your ALK up to 9 or 10 using bi-carb. But do it very slowly and monitor it. I good water change regime will help you allot in the early days (years!!)

the tank has been running for about 6 months now ! would it still be going thru' cycling ?
    please explain nutience ?
ok !! yeah , think my ALK is round about 6-7 most days !! i dose with KH . that the correct stuff ?
    i have started weekly water changes 15 % + - , but only done 2 so far

Get yourself a iodine test kit.Iodine levels in excess of 0.08ppm can cause harm to your beneficial bacteria and damage to the soft tissues of your corals. You should try and keep your iodine level at about 0.06ppm.

It's not advisable to dose Iodine,if you can't monitor the iodine levels within your water.

A tank can take a year or 2 to "Settle down" remember that every time you add livestock or coral, the biological make up of the tank takes a little hit, and needs time to get back into equilibrium. Thats why we dont add all the fish at once, but rather 1 fish every 2 or 3 weeks! Also some fish produce more waste than others!

I meant nutriance!! This is mostly the stuff that we add into the water that is not consumed or broken down in some form or another. Over feeding, not skimming correctly leaves this in the water column and this is what "feeds" the algae outbreaks and so on. Thats why some of us grow cheato in our sumps to help "export" it out the water column. ATS's are another method of getting this disolved waste out.

I take it your are using a KH buffer? What make? A good way to keep Calc and Alk at the right levels once achieved is to use Kalkwasser (lime water) when topping up. Use this instead of just normal RO, do some research on Kalkwasser! will help in keeping Calc and ALK at the right levels!

I would say that 10% once a week or 2 would be fine for your tank at the moment!

I agree with the comment do not dose anything that you do not have a test kit for, you can easily over dose iodine and screw up you tank, i use up 10 ml/week in my system but i test first befor i add anything, as for the algae they are Diatom you could reduce your light hours or cover the sunlight source and feed less and you could try a phosban reactor just my suggestion.

Don't stress about dosing "iodine" - feeding your fish and/or inverts supplies more than enough for most of our livestock...

I use the Tropic Marin - Pro Coral Iodine and yes it says to use one drop per 200lts/50 gallons of water.

I must admit I do not dose everyday. On average I dose once every second day and I cannot say for sure but I have noticed a change in my button polyps which are opening more than they did since I bought them over a year ago
