I've always loved the ocean and being from durban I've been free diving, spearfishing and we'll anything to do with the ocean for 14+ years.
My passion for marine aquariums started when a mate asked me to procure some fish while diving for his tank, from the minute I layed eyes on his pice of ocean in his living room I Wanted my own. Unfortunately due to the costs and a few fish/ petshops scaring me with prices I put my dreams of a slice of ocean on hold, till another mate bought one of the aquaria jobs in Dec. That was the finally straw. .. I started googling and figuring out how I could make my dream come true and I then took on the task of a DIY build.
I really don't have much of a clue what I'm doing but this forum and a few members have helped me in the right direction.... Much appreciated.
Well the above pics are at the point I am now and I'm hoping to have it all running in the next few months.

Thanks reefer. Still plenty to learn and do but it's a start. Hoping it works the way it's intended to.

    Looking good.
It always more satisfying doing it yourself.
Just my opinion could be wrong but I'm not sure you'd need the brace on the sump, but if you do or feel better having it. I would of half'd it in size, so it doesn't restrict being able to service / clean that middle chamber.
What you putting in that chamber below the brace

Thanks mad. I am going to remove the side braces and leave the centre to mount lighting.
This was a tank that was thrown out and it came with the bracing, worked out good for my sump though

    Thanks mad.
Side braces will come off but I'll leave the centre to mount lighting.
Tank was a throw away but it came in handy for the sump....had a small cracker on the bace that I patched

OK that's why I say that brace might get in the way.putting rocks in and maybe removing them to clean the bottom of the sump.
    Just my input
