Hi, im wanting to make a Diy light pendant for my tank.

    The tank is 1200mm x 600mm x 500mm (LWH)

    I will have 6 x 54w T5's

The tank has back Silocone and will be viewable from all sides and would like a nice pendant.

I was going to make a standard box shape type hood out of wood and hang it from the ceiling, but would like to have something a bit more BLING.

I was thinking something in aliminium 1200x450x150 (LWH)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this as well as where to get Aluminium in Cape Town.

Also im not the most DIY guy around so it would have to be real simple.

    Thanks EXPERTS for your help.

    Cheers

    Rossreefer,

The problem I've found is they want to sell you the whole 6mx3m sheet! Try Non-Ferrous Metals in Salt River - www.nfm.co.za I sometimes get offcuts there and they will also cut for you if required.

Please post pics once you create something.

    Elrond, thanks.

Im more concerned about the design, I know someone who works at a container depot and I could maybe get them to give me some as they use it to repair the refrigerated containers. They could probaly weld for me too. Would you just do a basic box design?

    Rossreefer,

I think I'd try go for a design like this and cut it in one piece and bend it like so:

    ______________
    / \
    / \
    | |
    ---------------------

I'd ensure the 'ends' at either end of the length of the pendant are also simply bent in wards to keep things neat.

    Thats just me :p

Hi, can you tell me where you would get the ballasts and tubes? I am trying to set up a 1,3x600x600. WOuld you put in fans on the pendant unit you would make?

I have two spare dual 54 watt ballasts with 4 sets of waterproof end caps that I could part with.
