I've been following Manic's diy controller thread and it all looks awesome. One thing I didnt find an answer to is if anyone has successfully build their own salinity probe?

I can buy one from Atlas Scientific but it costs around $100 - I'm sure you should be able to build one for a lot cheaper and it will be lots more fun.

The sensor is just a conductivity probe which measures current between 2 sensors correct?

Anyone looked at this yet?

Salinity or TDS?
TDS is the electrical current between two points. Salinity is the light bending through a prism.
Basically, not 100% correct but yeah, its the basic principle.

Good question. If I measured the conductivity how would this be translated to a salinity value?

At the end I want to measure salinity and monitor that the value is constantly 1.025

Not done by conductivity.
By prism, or what we call a refracto meter.

One can use a probe to determine Salinity. Just have no idea how its doneProb with some very complicated maths I would assume

You get salinty expansion and probe for the reef angel http://www.reefangel.com/products.aspx
