DIY question

    Hi all

    Can one drill into a steel stand with a fully operating tank on it???

    What size square tubing or angle is it and what size hole you want to drill

    Pictures will help Morne'! Can you please take a picture of the stand exactly where you want to drill into the stand? Please?

    I want to make a nice cabenit around the stand and it not that havy only about 10 kg for the hole tank

    Morne, does your tank run off the end of the stand on the left? Think thats a bit dangerous as your tanks weight is not distributed evenly.

    No because the the plywood is more then 10mm thick. and the tank hasn't cracked

    What size hole? but you are taking a chance with the tank hanging over so much!

    I will crack dude, mine was exactly the same and no problems for over 2 years. Then one morning there was a waterfall. It's not worth the risk, rather build a new stand and then you can drill all the holes needed for you new cabinet.

    But why do I need a new steel stand for my tank half of the people on masa has a tank with steel sopords and with no plywood under ther tanks myne is 10mm with reinforded with 10mm strips at the boottam and all the sides. The tanks is purly on the plywood so why make a ussue of somethig that not a problem have 3 tanks I could use If my tanks brusts.....

    Hi Morne
    Take into account the risk you run when you drill a hole in the stand and the "overhang" of the tank, I will rather go for wood panels that you pad around the stand with magnets. The benefit is, you can remove them to work in the engine room, cheaper than a cabinet and you can re-use it with another stand.

    Thats what I am planing just want to add a wood border around the stand but not behind Just wanted to know if it can be done because I have seen Masa members do it.
