    Hi All

I'm thinking of building a peristaltic pump for my dosing, I feel the price on the OEM units are a rip off, so I'm thinking of building my own.

The basic design idea is the following:

A uC (microcontroller) with LCD will serve as the controller, which will drive some stepper motors with a DIY "roller block"

I would love to hear if anyone else has attempted this before?

And what do you expect your DIY solution to cost?

iv also been planning on building some. Was thinking of using a 12 or 20rpm geared motor from mantech rather than a stepper for simplicity. One downside would be a slight noise from the gears when running. Iv even seen them directly driven by a dc motor, thinkl it would be quite difficult to get an accurate dose like that though. How you planing on making the rollers? Iv got access to a cnc machine at varsity if you wanna get them nice and accurate :)

Not sure Marius, but cheaper than buying.

Brett, was just going to make using Alu with roller Bearing, but CNC sound much better!

Reason I am asking is because you can get 50ml/min pumps on ebay for around R470. Then you need add a timer and 12V source. So for R600 you can get a dosing pump. What does the uC cost on its own?

well the actual chip is cheap, maybe R5 to R25 depending on functionality required, but will require programming.

with this you can control exactly to ammount of dosage.

Just been think, since there is quite a bit of interest, CNC might not be the way, I think it may be worth making a mould and casting the parts?

I can make it on a machining center. Once the initial program is compiled, then each component can be made quickly. Which component needs to be machined though?

I've found a supplier that can supply the head units at a very decent price.

    0.58ml/Rev 3mm ID silicone - $15.20
    1.18ml/Rev 5mm ID silicone - $15.20

    0.53ml/Rev 3mm ID Norprene - $18.50
    1.08ml/Rev 5MM ID Norprene - $18.50

Units with motors are about $60-$65 BUT exclude and electonic control systems

Shipping would cost about R250 for about 6 heads via postal....

That would make them about R200ea exc duties

Cool thanks. With the cost of dosing pumps it might just be cheaper to go and get some.
