    Hi all

I know I have been absent for about a year. I will post everything in the new tank thread i will start soon.

For now, I need some advice.... is it possible to use aluminum on a Marine Tank? I am busy trying out different designs for a light hood, but I am trying to come up with a plan to have a hood suspended over the tank, so as to have an "open" tank system. If it turns out aluminum can be used then I will post design ideas, otherwise it is back to the drawing board.

Thanks very much!! Any and all advice is welcomed :)

Aluminum can be used, and is used very often for light units, my t5 unit has a full aluminum casing.

Thanks Tridan!! I am planning on using 50mm aluminium L bar to life the hood off the tank.

Question: (yes I know, I am full of them) What is the minimumn and maximum heights for a light hood with a set of 4x54w and 4x39w T5's? The tank is 1200x450x400. :baffled:

The answer would be determined more by the thickness of your glass and the weight dispersion of the light unit.

If the glass is 10mm you should not have a problem if you use a decent footing to rest on the glass.
If its 6mm i would rather suspend the lights of brackets mounted to the wall, or from the ceiling

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I found the most awesome light units this afternoon at a kick ass price. Guess I will not be doing this design anymore.
