Needing some help from the DIY led guys please

I'm setting up a new 4foot reef tank, going softies and lps, with reef friendly fish. Not sure yet on stock lists

I currently have a previously love quad t5 with 2 blue a white and purple 54 watts in. I want to start with mixing in LEDs and eventually change to full led.

I'm looking at the typhon control as well..

My question is two fold, how many LEDs should I be loo filing for to get good growth and colouring, and secondly what is the best mehod to do an led setup

I have looked at improved livings led and drivers but not sure these are diimmable.

I hope there is some one who can help me.

Improved living's driver are not dimmable at all.

i am using the 3w led's. i based my one unit on the pharos 90w unit but i personally dont like all the colours.
im going to run blue, white, uv and warm white at the moment. i will only be running uv x4, 15000k x 10, warm white x 2 and blue x 14 on the second unit and see how that goes. no optics at the moment as the led's have a 140 deg angle.

I'm using Meanwell LDD-1000H drivers, one for each colour.
Have a Coralux Storm Controller but these drivers should work with the Typhon too.

So far I've got the following over my tank at the moment:
    10 x CREE XT-E 3W Royal Blue LED
    10 x CREE XP-G2 5W Cool White LED
    12 x Epistar 3W Extreme Cool White LED 15000K
    6 x Epistar 3W Aqua UV LED 395 - 410nm
    4 x Epistar 3W Blue 450 - 460nm
    6 x Epistar 3W Cyan LED 495nm

A ratio of 2:1 Blue/White is a good place to aim for.
The UV range is also very important, from 390nm to 420nm.
Cyan at 490nm is also quite beneficial.

Red and orange are not recommended, they don't penetrate very far into the water. Add 1 or 2 warm whites to cover that part of the spectrum.

    Hi @Grr

I visited mantech a few weeks back and saw that they now stock the meanwell ELN 60 48P dimmable led drivers (around R300 if I'm not mistaken). when I did my led build I used them and they are IMO the best you can get for what you're looking to do . I also used cree led's from rapidled as @Vetrix did and am not sorry that I did .

Having said that ... @Charl_Stanhope Used Bridgelux led's in both the builds he did and if corals and livestock are anything to go by then you may as well use what he used (and its a lot less expensive too) .
So far as what I did for a controller , I used the Typhon controller and it works like a charm ... when it dies you can send it back and they will repair it but it would probably cost less to just buy a new one ... Go check out RAPIDLED , BOOSTLED , STEVE'S LED .They all have a lot of cool stuff on their sited .

My typhon gave up after consuming some saltwater a little while back and in my quest to get it repaired I came accross a lot of people using the storm controller and it seems like a very cool unit .

    I hope this helps

Some pics in my thread, just click my signature image.
Those pics don't have the Epistar LEDs on yet, only added them recently.

Cree is by far the best but you will rarely find the best bin LEDs in our hobby.
Cree is American and Epistar is Chinese. They not too bad, the Cree's would have a longer life expectancy and also be must closer to their rated spectrum than the Epistar LEDs.

Oh and the Cree's would be more energy efficient, producing more light for less power.
