    Hi guys,

Im currently trying to set up my kalk stirrer and tested my mag which is a bit low. I have to dose 475gr of Epsom Salts to get it up to where i want it. I have been advised that brightwells kalk has a mg buffer added to it and was wondering if there is a diy recipe out there on ratios of mag buffer to add to kalk so all three levels are in balance.

Im not even sure if this is possible as I have no idea on chemical reactions that could take place.

" A "third" part of this additive system contains magnesium, sulfate, and chloride. It needs to be added only once in a while at a fixed rate relative to the other two parts. It cannot be readily combined with either of the other parts,

ok shot, so the next question?

So how often do I need to test for mag and dose cos it seems my mag drops rather quickly, not as fast as kh but a substantial dop every time I test. Maybe i took the literal meaning "mag does not drop quickly" too seriously.

You will need to work it out over a period of time.. need to test and see how fast it drop and work out a dosing plan

is that 1.75kg with 250gr. Im assuming this is the better option for mag buffer.

How much product will raise mag by one x ppm? or

What option do i chose on the Reef Chem Calcualtor?

@Francois is using that Chem Calcualtor... my tank consumes dKh at a rate off 1.3ppm in one day, so I need to dose 250ml of my mix, magnesium I dose 1ml every hour and Calcium 25ml a day

All very confusing. need to set up my Marine Magic triple doser and also decide what supplements to use if I decide to go the DIY route are all these chemicals available at a normal pharmacy?

ok il have to check if the kalk stirrer keeps up, which im sure it will as i only have a few lps n sps. will def try RHF if kalk cnt keep up. but will try the mag buffer if i cn work out how much product to add to raise it by 1 point for instance, for egsample 25ml will raise it by 1 point in 100lt

Do you know the amount of RO water to add with the Calcium Cloride and the Sodium Bi-carbonate?

Just put normal kalk in your kalk stirrer and leave the mag buffer out as it's better controlling each parameter by it self. Do not raise your mag more than 10ppm daily. First get your mag sorted out before dosing other chemicals. Try getting your mag levels to 1390ppm as at that level your Alk and Ca whould be more stable.

If you get your mag sorted out and it's at 1390ppm, you only have to test for mag weekly and work out what your consumption rate is, and dose accordingly, you can dose epsom salts if you do frequently water changes, if not it's advisable to get some magnesium cholride as well.

How many litres after LR is your tank? And where is your mag sitting now?

My starting point was a 2 l bottle. Fill it up half way with RO water, put your required CA or Alk in and fill the rest of the bottle with RO water. Never mix the two together.

. how much of the below mix will be required to raise it by 10ppm in 100lt?

(magnesium chloride) (Magnesium 1.75kg with .25kg magnesium sulphate in 5l OR water) is this a typo or actually 250gr

Its at 1260 tank volume is 560 nett?

"Calcium should be minimum of 420. Magnesium is three times calcium whatever the number eg 450ppm cal is magnesium 1350ppm. Kh is calcium divided by 42 = 10.71 kh.'

For the correct ionic balance if my mag is gona sit at 1390 then calcium shud be 463 or round about there and my kh shud be 11.
