    Hi Guys

I am organising some chemicals to make my own dosing solutions.

They are quite expensive (pharmaceutical grade from kirsch) and consist of the following:

    Calcium Chloride CaCl2 -@R42.80/kg - Ex VAT
    Epsom Salt MgSO4 -@R8.50/kg - Ex VAT
    Magnesium Chloride MgCl2 -@R46.60/kg - Ex VAT
    Sodium Bicarbonate NaHCO3 -@R18.90/kg - Ex VAT

These only come in 25 kg bags and the lot would cost me about R3328.

This is however much more than I need and should last me years (if I stay on my current tank size :p).

So..., Anyone who wants to split this? Would consider up to a 3 way split.

    Thank you!

@charlv , they did not specify, but I did ask for the spec sheets, will hopefully get them soon. Which one would be best fit for purpose?

Sorry bud and everyone I'm wrong here AR is for lab testing and BP is food grade

    Here's some info
BP Grade - BP grade is also known as pharmaceutical grade and is analogous to the American USP Grade. These products must conform to the standards set out by the British Pharmacopoeia in terms of purity and lack of contaminants. These products are supplied with a COA (certificate of analysis or certificate of conformity) which shows that they have been tested and confirmed to meet the required standards. BP grade chemicals are generally used for cosmetic applications as they ensure a high level of purity and traceability, or when a higher grade is required for laboratory testing. Please note that while they may be called pharmaceutical grade, none of the products that we sell are authorised for use in food or medical applications.

AR Grade - Analytical Research Grade chemicals are a very high grade of chemical suitable for the specialist analytical testing carried out in laboratories where a high degree of accuracy is required

    Sorry guys

Cool, no worries. I asked kirsch to quote me on the purest grade they have, so would guess it would be AR grade, hence the expense, but still have to get the confirmation though.

I'd be willing to take some off your hands, was also looking for some but 25kg is just way to much for me

    @JackSplat, just a hint...
I've been using DIY chemical dosing for the past 3 years, & have always used BP/food grade or even lower...
The AR grade is totally unnecessary/overkill as it is meant for chemical laboratory testing where other impurities could affect the outcome.
All marine additive manufacturers use BP/food grade. (except for Triton from Germany)

You will probably get the BP grade at about 1/3rd of the price of the AR grade & will work just as well without any negative effect on water quality.

Ive always purchased my chemicals from protea chemicals in Alberton.

The only thing you can perhaps ask them is for the nitrate & phosphate counts in the chemicals just to be sure.

According to Kirsch the quote they gave me is for BP grade chems, they send me the spec sheets,

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/106796286/KirschChems20131003.pdf

I want to keep 10 kg's each for myself and I am willing to split the rest into 3 x 5kg batches each (I don't really want to split it smaller, too much foot work for containers etc). A 4set of 5kg chems would then be R665 plus the price of whatever containers I have to get for it.

I will give those who replied to this thread, first to last, dibs when I get it
