So 4 of us dived Vechies today.
    lIghty, Danimal, ShaneO and myself.

Water not great, end of Limestone only 1-2 m of vis with a fair bit of surge.
    Nothing specacular, caught:
    1) couple of cleaner wrasse
    2) semi
    3) striatus
    4) couple of coral banded shrimp
    5) Paraluterus Prionurus (Valentini Mimic)
    6) Racoon fly

Saw lots of local flies incl aurigas, marley eye, black burnies, coachmen. Also black beans, goldies, tenenti tang. Some beautiful full grown dussemeris around. Bland as a juveline, but stunning as an adult. The bigest evil eye puffer I've ever seen, must have been half a meter long:eek:.

    continue dsiscussion here .......

    :peroni:

i know we get coral banded shrimps in our waters, but what other shrimps do we get in our waters? since ive never been in kzn:blush: im wondering what stuff you guys have access too.

it seems a lot of the fish from our coast is fish for FOWLR tanks instead of reef tanks.

i have dived up on the durban coast a few times and have found

    camel/humpback
    cleaner
    boxing
    anemone
    bumblebee

    shrimp to name a few..

as for the fish selection there is a vast amount of fish that are easily suitable for a reef system to be found along the warmer SA coast...

We had an awesome dive off the Bluff yesterday even though the vis wasn't great, no current, no surge, glass flat seas. All you Durban divers are welcome to join us on the dive boat. We dive every weekend weather permitting and the next few months offer the best diving conditions in the Durban area. [IMG][IMG]

    Catching technique is fairly basic.
You trap the fish in a hole/cave, then flush them out with a prodder hopefully into your net.
Net shape and size varies greatly, whatever works for you.
Me personally, I run 2 nets, clear plastic and a black shade cloth unit. The former only works well if there is no surge or current.

We were going to launch again tomorrow but weather not looking good, Sunday and Monday the boat is available. Contact me if you want to dive. We can take 10 divers plus the skipper. Get a group together and we go.
