Ok so keep your carbon pellets from breaking up in the water and causing carbon dust in the water, thats the moral of the story? Been very diligent about that already

i take my carbon/GAC and place it in a bag, then soak in 0 TDS HOT RO water for 10min, then add it to my reactor

Usually soak mine in RO over night and use it in a filter bag inside a power filter

BUT thinking of just suspending it in the sump where the water flow isnt too hectic, should also work great and less power consumption and no chance of carbon dust from pellets being rubbed together

I think we should get some of the industry people like waterboy/ Marco to give us some insight on the different Carbons available and that are sold in the hobby - Carbon has distinct benefits but it seems it now also has distinct disadvantages if used incorrectly.

    the term is

There was always a knowledge that carbon dust could aggravate HLLE in discus and we had to rinse the stuff like mad

Well I think this would not be the only cause, Im sure there are more causes of HLLE. Pritty sure that it should account for many aquarium related HLLE issues but what causes it in the wild is another story.

Yes there are tons of trigger points like ammonia, parasites, bad diet, the type of fish among others. The carbon dust is not a new thing
