    Hi gang,

    So yesterday I went and bought my first tank-related goodies. Included in the mix is a small external digital thermometer (Marlton's) with a wired probe.

    The thing has a digital on-off, and a F/C switch, as expected. However, it's also got two modes (toggled using the on/off button), labeled "IN" and "OUT" on the LCD display.

    I was fiddling with it last night trying to suss it. The "OUT" mode appears to be the probe. It gave my mouth temp as 36.1 degrees, which is pretty accurate.

    However, the "IN" mode (which is the default when you switch it on) does not have any rhyme or reason. It's always different from the "OUT" temperature, and seems to rise and fall along with the "OUT" temp, but completely unpredictably. At first I thought the unit has a second thermistor within the unit body (to measure air temp), but holding the unit in my fist for a while failed to deliver a corresponding rise in temperature.

    It's not really important, as I'm only really interested in the probe temp, but does anybody know what this "IN" temperate represents?

    Thanks!
    RIaan

    I think the unit has two temperature sensors - the "out" would be for the reading via the probe and "in" would be for the temperature read by the unit itself (sort of like the ambient temperature of the area in which the unit is situated - test this by changing the setting to "in" and putting it in the oven :p

    (or just leave it in the fridge for a while - will be safer)

    in = unit temp
    out = probe temp

    I have a feeling the unit probe is geborken. It doesn't rise when I hold the unit in my hand.
