    Hi All

Looking for some help from the camera guru's

I went shopping today to have a look at a contract for my GF, but has now includes a possibly purchase a D-SLR.

Here is the catch...... I can get the contract I'm looking for form Incredible Connection, and also get an instore voucher worth R3400. (none of the other shops can offer such a good voucher)

So since I've been thinking of buying a camera I started looking, this what they can offer.

AFAIK they all have the 18-55mm lens

Canon 1000D (NO accessories, BODY AND LENS ONLY) R4700 - R1300 pay in :)

Canon 450D (inc bag) R6300 - R2900 pay in :whistling:

Canon 500D (inc bag, small tripod and 8GB card) R6500 - R3100 pay in :(

The way I see it, its going to cost me another R600 for the 1000D anyway, therefore only making the difference between the 1000D and 500D only R1200?

Yes, I know you can get these camera cheeper else were, but I'm kinda restricted due to the voucher.....

They do have Nikon too, but not too keen on them, not sure why.

    Any advise welcome

R6500 is a good price for the 500D, that would be what i would go with.

I bought my daughter a 450D shortly after it was launched, and she has been very happy with it since then (going on +2 years now, if I remember correctly). I have used it a few times myself, and found it to be a very good camera. Obviously, it has now been superseded by the 500D and 550D, and with a price difference of only R200.00 between the 450D and the 500D, I would suggest that you rather take the 500D. In fact, if the 500D comes with a memory card, it is actually cheaper than the 450...

Nikons are just as good as Canons, and you won't go wrong with either make, but if you prefer the Canon, for whatever reason, then go for it.

    Thanks for you input Hennie.

AFAIK the differences between the 450D and 500D are the upgraded processor, ISO now up to 3200, Peripheral illumination correction and video upto 1080p, so I'm sure it should be good.

I would just look and getting something like a 80-300mm lens latter on, when my ship arrives.

500D if you can afford it. Otherwise 1000D is not bad.

INCREDIBLE CONNECTION IS A BUNCH OF *$#%^&%%^#*!

They couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery even if they tried!

After waiting 4 days for them to approve my account they then realised they had quoted me the wrong figures, so politely told them to tear the contract up and put the camera where the sun don't shine!

I then went to Autopage last night where I've had my account for the last 8 years, this morning it was all sorted, so I just need to go and collect the camera now from Dion Wired Gateway tomorrow, where the sale gent, Alvin, was SO helpful, knowing more about the products that all of the other "photo shops", no word of a lie!

    Finally!

Ok, 3 pics I took this afternoon testing my camera, set it on the Macro setting with the std 18-55mm lens.

Don't say anything about the topic, it was the only think interesting I could find at the inlaws place....

I had to reduce res. and quality to be about to upload.

BTW, has anyone tried to photograph lightning? As I'm going to be building a lightning triggering device.

Congratulations, with the new camera, Justin! Some GREAT pics, there, mate. Like me - playing around last year December with my Nikon D40....

BTW - I have previously played around with pics and lightning - as well as with taking pics of cars passing in nighttime - using the "bulb setting" of my digital SLR camera.....

Unfortunately - I do not have the proof of the lightning and cars passing, anymore :(

HDD crashed and I lost those pics....
