Different ways people use eggcrate

Ok so the obvious thing is to make stands for your aquascaping. However i've found it very hard to do anything of the sort in a nano as it's always exposed...

I've seen some guys use it below their rocks (one layer flat on the glass), then add substrate. What would be the point of this?

Surely the blocks would actually trap detritus and cause problems?

dont think that it would make a big difference if your fine substrate covers the eggcrate. some rocks have sharp edges that could possible cause the glass to crack because of the pressure on that small area.

Hi Matt - you exactly right. BUT, that's why the guys who all have bare-bottom tanks have water flow of more than 90x their tank water volume. To blow ALL detritus away from EVERYWHERE. So, in this case, you should not/would not have detritus problems :)
