What is the efficiency difference between an internal nw110 skimmer and an external dnw 110?both having the same output pumps attached.

Strange that there is no difference coz the price seems to suggest otherwise with internal and external reef octo range..... Or is a case of things "looking neat"

That makes sense, as an external, has more plumbing

More plumbing but some are like double the price of their internal twins! Cant be all that much more plastic - And I always thought that the price tag jumped with actual pump of a skimmer more than any other part of it....

i think the efficiency of the skimmer is theoretically the same, in the sence of water in water out as it obviously has the same pumps..... I think the percieved efficiency gain with the external one is that in theory it can be plumbed into the overflow.... thus skimming 100% of the water from the overflow..... thus being more effective than an in sump version which while skimming the same volume, may allow some water past and re skim other water ....

that being said, plumbing it into the overflow is from what i have herd, a nightmre....

    just my 2c worth

Too true, one of my cats decided to investigate the back of the tank, and used the inlet pipe as a foot hold - snapped the entire inlet connection off, wow what a mess

ok in that sense it does make contact with all the water....so theoretically it should be more effecient, ithink:razz:

It might, but is it really the extra price worth? I don't think so :whistling:

I saw prices on internal skimmers say R4000, then for the same external it's about R6000 :(

You can put the overflow pipe from the tank close to the inlet of the internal skimmer's pump. If you don't overfeed and have a bio-load that is correct for the size tank, an internal skimmer of 1.5 to 2 times the tank volume will be sufficient ;)
