Development at Vetchies

    heard today that developments are starting at Vetchies is it true? What exactly is going to happen anyone have any info? If the reef is going to be damaged?

    im not sure.. i know it was stopped by the surfing community and a few other interested parties.. where did you hear from? reliable sorce?

    Well apparently I it went tru some dude on da beach told me not sure how true it is but said as u can see da bull dosers are already here

    That sucks I hope they don't damage the reef.

    there was a big story about that, and i think the EIA assessment revealed that there was a specific mussel that only grows in that area and it would be damaging to continue with development.. i will try dig up the story...

    I think they have come too a compromise with the reef staying intact

    last news I saw was that development scaled down considerably from original.

    Reef stays as is and marina will be developed towards harbour wall side.

    Also think this is just start of agreement with waterfront clubs and still a long road to go. Bulldozers may be working on the sand pumping pipeline which has been receiving maintenance recently.

    DUC have proposal on notice board if you get down that way

    There is alot of sand pumping that happens along the beach from vetchies past ushaka, this is to increase the size of the beach for holiday season as the sand is constantly being washed away. The bulldozers are usually there to flatten the sand out.

    or as dickw said to work on the pipeline which is constantly needing repair.
