    Hi Guys,

I've found someone that wants to sell me a Deltec AFP600 about 2 years old.

My system size in 350 liters including sumps and refugium.

Is there such a thing as skimmer being over powerful for a system.

Its rated for 1000L selling at R2000.

    Your advice will be appreciated.

    hi

yes u could have a too powerfull skimmer in that the neck of the skimmer is too big and requires lots of doc's - dissolved organics compounds, fish poop, to work.

in your case the apf 600 will be an awesome size skimmer for your tank.

oh yes and it was rated at 1000l years ago today i would rate it for 400L max if compared to the new deltecs of today that are rated for 1000l

They are a gr8 skimmer..And would be awesome for ur tank size....
The new APF600 comes with their new improved pump DCS600 12w. Hope it comes with that pump. Else the Aqua-be pump does a decent job though.

Got the skimmer, looking pretty awesome, any ideas how i can mod the aquabee pump ?

Pump very noisy so i will invest in another one, what should I go for ? Something with a mesh wheel ??

Pumps are seriously expensive to upgrade - might be cheaper to get another skimmer!

That's my problem with Deltec is that the replacement parts are expensive. The noise could be from the bushes on either end of the impeller wearing out.

Very nice skimmer..Those aquabee pumps are normally very quiet pumps.I replaced the pump on my APF600 and it costed me around R900 incl Impellor..it might be cheaper now since the new deltecs came out...

Agreed. It pulls a lot of air and makes a lot of bubbles so the modification isn't necessary.
