    Guys,

I'm a bit confused by the apparent lack of a half decent temperature probes. I hate those stupid mercury thermometers and those hideous things with the white wires that one sticks onto the tank. Is there anything nice with a good old 8 bit LED (red, green or blue) readout that one can just neatly mount on the outside of your cabinet and from a comfortable distance tell what the temperature is (day or night). There are tons of PH meters etc that offer this...

If you want to spend the cash you can look at any of electronic supply shops like Yebo Electronics etc.

Otherwise simply mount the crappy thing with the white wire in the sump :D

Thanks but an LCD isn't visable in a darker room or at night, but we're getting closer. Looks like I need to buy a small chiller for R3k that has a thermometer in it. Clearly a massive gap in the market for such an item.

    Dudes,

So I eventually found something on ebay and it arrived yesterday. It cost $35 delivered so not bad. There was another good temperature controller but I couldnt figure out how to integrate it into my cube (as is). It's actually a temperature controller which one just connects your heaters to. It could act as a nice safety mechanism too I guess. I'm just not sure of the accuracy. They say 'within 1 degree' but I reckon this one might be 2 degrees out :(

Just to understand this unit better. I see you can plug 2 heaters in, so does it control the heaters?

Icornelius - yeah. you set the temperature you'd like to have in the system and it switched the sockets on and off based on the temperature currently in the system. I just wanted the LCD display as I trust my Jager heaters explicitly!

    The link I used:

    Hi

Had the same problem, I ordered this, look for it on the web, agree that there is a gap in the market.

PS. Those white wiry ones, they work best if you realise that some of them has an OUT and IN setting. If it is on the OUT setting your temperature stay a balmy 17deg with your heater running at full tilt.

Len, yeah I get you but I mostly spend time infront of my system before and after sunset. The bright red LED's are exactly what I was looking for!

Note, this was not a recommendation for the white wiry ones ;) If it is on OUT, it reads the room temperature, and it does not matter how much heat you pump into the water, it stays the same.

add you heater to one plug, set your heater to say 30 degrees, so it warms up the water quickly when it is switched on, plug a fan to the other so that it cools when over the desired temp.
