Hi all I have a ddnw-250 protein skimmer with 2x OTP3000 pumps on it. Im wanting to put 2x HY-5000 pumps on it. Does anyone think that the air intake difference from 1920l/h to 5000l/h would be a problem

Its gonna be too much as the skimmer neck is too small to handle 2 hy5000..
    Maybe try one hy5000 or 2 hy3000

Just remember, much time and effort has been invested into designing specific skimmers and their physics can't be change much in terms of their shape and workings. Yes, one could probably change a pump to fit an older model with some success, but the skimmer was definitely designed with it's original equipment in mind.
That being said, would like to know how it works out.

i think instead of trying to overdrive a skimmer you should be looking at getting it working optimally with a lower wattage pump or pumps, the real saving is in the electricity (due to 24/7 operation) and most skimmers will have their limitations due to design, BUT, if we dont play around we will never know ;)

One of your main considerations will bee the turbulence created by the new pumps. What is their flowrate and head versus the same factors in your current pumps. Yes, those reef octo pumps do chomp on your eishkom bill. As already mentioned, look at pumps which are more efficient at air intake but without to big an increase in flowrate and head.
