Hallo everyone, my lfs gave me 2 hermit crabs for my tank, and said if they survive, I can add coral, it has been 4 days now, and they are living like they own the tank haha, does this mean I can add coral?

How long has the tank been cycling?
A Tank must cycle at least 4 months before safely adding corals.

And all the water parameters must be in check.

How long has the tank been running?
    Also only 4days?

If thats the caso no i wont add anything else.
Remember the tank cycle will get a amonia spike later on then only on day 25 or somewhere there it goes away.

It also depends on what filtration your running, and do you have NP pelets or DSB.
    and and and

Please dont as your tank has barely started to cycle. Ammonia is only now starting to build up, which if reach toxic enough levels will kill your hermits. You going to have to wait out the 4-6 weeks.

    Please read vipers article http://www.marineaquariumsa.com/showthread.php?t=20232

is old but its still valid nature hasn't changed how it works. There are products you can add to shorten this cycle but do your research on them after you understand the nitrogen cycle

Find a new LFS. You NEVER use livestock to test if parameters are ok, we have test kits to do that.

    Hi Albert firstly masahello

Secondly what 459 says is 100% true your hermits are there for a reason in a tank as part of your CUC not a TEST, they will suffer in a tank that will become toxic before it becomes better.

There are great LFS in Pretoria look for a new one I have to agree.

Time is important, dont rush it as nothing good will come from it it will cost you money and livestock its life.

Read up listen and take in what people say, let your tank cycle and see next year as a good time to look at starting.

Sea shells can do more harm than good because they trap detritus. Depends on the flow in your tank.

I would suggest you hold off on adding the shells while the tank is cycling and that you take a couple of pictures of your setup for the experts on the forum to have a look at.

Later on when your tank is running and you have a few snails and hermits in the tank you could leave shells as "spare housing" for the hermit crabs who likes to relocate once in a while.
