    Cyanobacteria are one of the reasons Earth has an atmosphere while we may begrudge them in our aquariums for the unslightly mess they make and often killing corals by smothering them- The primitive Cyanobacteria started forming our atmosphere through their byproducts of photosynthesis long before the rest of the plants got into the act- at least this is one of the hypothesis out there.

    I have no doubt they can live in extreme places so they maybe the first extraterrestrial life found.
