    Hi !

I have red cyano that has started growing in my sump compartment. I added chaeto to this compartment and added a 10 watt LED spotlight (5500 kelvin on a 12 hour cycle). This was done about a month ago. The main display doesn't have any signs of cyano. Is the LED spotlight maybe the culprit ?, and should I be worried that the cyano will spread to the rest of the tank ?

if its in the sump it is still cool. i doubt that it is the light. maybe check for nitrates and so forth.

It could have come with the chaeto...

Usually if the person had cyano from where you got the chaeto from there will be some traces of cyano..

Switch all sump lights off for 3 or 4 days and it will disappear. It is definitely fed by the light. I would use a minimum of 10k lighting for the sump, lower kelvin ratings encourage algae growth in my experience.

lack of flow helps it grow quickly. and any pump in there to get the water moving alittle bit more
