I was wondering if any of you fella's actually have or had experience with keeping cuttlefish?

I have been wanting to have a cephlapod tank for some time now & thought now is the time to get some cuttlefish. I have done quite abit of reading on many forums but haven't actually asked anyone about their experiences with these critters. I know they have a short lifespan but if they manage to breed the that's a bonus.

Some pics of the Metasepia pfefferi AKA Pfeffer's Flamoyant Cuttlefish. The species I've asked an LFS to investigate to see if he can get it in so I'm holding thumbs.

    Good luck on that one.....

Ive read in general that cephlapods transport really badly, acclimate poorly, live for not much longer than a year and need live food.

The flamboyant cuttlefish are going to be a step more difficult to keep due to their small fragile size and specialised requirements, very few people have had much success with them.

don't try to get the animal - rather get the eggs. The eggs travel better

Hi, just quick question, what would happen if cuttlefish squirts it's ink in the tank, would the ink dissapear or would it mean a big water change? It would be nice to have one, but im still a far way from being experienced enough to keep one.

That's why I'm upgrading my skimmer & yes if they ink I'll have to do some waterchanges but hope it doesn't come to that.

Have heard of them living for 14 - 16 months but it all boils down to water quality & how stable your system is. Raising them from when they hatch is the biggest issue as they'll need live food for most of their life span. Will need varrious sized pod cultures then to collect local shrimp for them to feed on which for me isn't an issue but for those inland it is. Some thing to think about. I'm not rushing into it but would have to wait until my system is ready for them.
