I did a design here on a Custom Nano let me know what you guys think please.

I have decided to go for a nano instead just to see if I can keep a reef alive before I build a huge tank and suck at it.

What it will look like when it's done.

What it will look like on Stand.

Probably gonna be cheaper just buying a TL 550 taking glass , stands etc into account...interesting design though

If you gong to have two sumps then I'd drop the three compartment bit behind the tank. Cleaning small compartments can be a hassle so rather move whatever you, going to put in there into one of the sumps. This will also give you,a little bit more space in the dt doe scaping.

I did that so I can have a 1/1 DSB instead of the 3/4 Recommended

True But I don't like them and after having to upgrade that it'll probably cost the same
And I won't pay for the stand :)

Like your thinking and the design.

I would move the refugium to the middle, easier to observe it there, and there is lots of interesting things to observe in an refugium

Would agree with Dave on the DT, keep it as big as you can, no need for the back filter area, not sure I understand the ratios you are talking about?

Would love to see this one built.

somebody had a similar cube design here on Masa 2 years back. Worked nice.

As mentioned, rather go without the chambers in the display. Anway at the height of the tank it will be very difficult to get your hand in there anyway when needed. Rather go with slimline overflow and slimline return.

Also the refugium combeined with DSB in the middle could be better.

I would yse 2 return pumps. From bottom to top tank. and another from bottom to middle. Setting the bottom up as a standard 2 chamber sump with skimmer and return. Middle tank overflow back to return chamber.

Not sure what you mean ?

The way I have it is 2 pumps in the bottom tank one to the DT and one to the Middle. Does the one to the middle then flow back in to the bottom again?

Also in the DSB Middle tank if I put LR in the overflow compartment this could be a Trickle filter.

@RiaanP Does a DSB need light?

Also how well does a DSB + Refugium in the same space combo work, or is it better to have them separate ?

My main consern is to get the DSB as big as possible and the way it is now I'll have 100% DT surface area in my DSB.

Can I put a Half DSB in the bottom with return chamber and another in the Refugium with Caulerpa (or what ever works better) growing in the DSB? [FONT=&quot]

@RiaanP I see you made a C2C skinny top only overflow... I like this idea how exactly do you calculat sizes on this? and how does one clean a skinny overflow exactly ?

Do you think this would do on a 400 X 400 cube 450 high ?
    2 Overflow holes 32mm
Skinny Overflow is 8mm from back 360mm wide and 80mm deep ? with water level at 420mm (67.2 L) can drop it to 400mm (64L)

Rather have one pump that feeds the whole system. I can see some flooding taking place if one of the 2 pumps fail.

And BTW, a smaller system is much harder to keep alive than a bigger one. So dont get the wrong impression of marines if feel that this small setup is too much work.

I do agree but a big one is to much money... I'll have to plan this over 2years if I want a big one :( Small budget sucks...

    Yes

Not needed, Can get away with a skinny overflow on one side, exiting at the bottom, so bigger main section for DSB and refugium.

    That will work

    Why?
One pump from sump to top tank.
Other tank from sump to middle tank.
One pump fail, then one tank without inlet.

Reason why I do not think it is good to have the display overflow directly into the refugium is that all the bigger food pieces would be trapped easily in the refugium. The cheato ball becoming a food trap. Else filter socks must be used, and that must be cleaned out or that can block and overflow.
