I bought a pom pom crab also know as a boxing crab this morning, and after drip acclimating him.
I put him in the tank and he looked fine.

A while later I came back to the tank to find one of my dwarf cushion stars wraped around the crab. I managed to pull the crab out, but a few of his legs broke.
He is still alive and I have taken the starfish out, but there are still a few more stars in the tank.

Has anyone every seen this before.
At first I thought it was because the crab was dead or dying but it was is still moving.

Very strange, a cusion star should not be able to catch a boxing crab. Are you sure the crab is healthy? The cusion stars are omnivors that lean more towards being carnivors.

NJH I was also wondering if he was healthy, can't say I am 100% sure.
I also thought it was strange, I would have thought it would be the crab eating the star.

No problem, I got another one there a few weeks back and this time he is going strong.
Ask around at your LFS, a lot of the time even if they have them you won't see them because they are hiding under a rock.

I've seen cushion stars eat lots of things.
People post here that they are harmless little algae eaters, then I just chuckle.
they are very stealthy - I wonder if they maybe secrete something that relaxes their prey...

I know it was quite strange.
I also suspect because it was in my quarintine tank, and wasn't feeding much it was quite hungry.
